Sixty less privileged persons selected from different wards in Nsit Ubium local government today smiled home with one hundred thousand naira each to mark Governor Umo Eno’s birthday.
The Commissioner for Lands, Retired Captain Iniobong Ekong, Member representing Nsit Ubium in the State House of Assembly, Honorable Otobong Bob, Nsit Ubium Transition Committee Chairman, Architect Iniobong Orok and friends sponsored the gesture.
Speaking at the event tagged “Empowering sixty at sixty” which took place at Ikot Akpafuk, Nsit Ubium local government, Retired Captain Iniobong Ekong said their desire to impact the people was in appreciation of God’s grace and benevolence upon the state Governor, Pastor Umo Eno who turns sixty.
Captain Ekong said the beneficiaries were carefully chosen among those who actually needed assistance in one way or the other.
The Commissioner wished the beneficiaries well as they make use of the gift to take care of their immediate needs.
Captain Ekong wished the Governor a happy birthday.
The Member representing Nsit Ubium in the state house of Assembly, Hon. (Barr) Otobong Bob said they were moved by the Governor’s attribute of compassion to the vulnerable persons, hence the gifts to the people to mark the Governor’s 60th birthday.
Barrister Bob who reiterated his commitment to giving back to his constituents when opportunity beckons, led the beneficiaries in singing birthday songs for the Governor.
A state officer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who is also from Nsit Ubium, Mr Ibanga Brownson and others were at the event.
The beneficiaries who were full of appreciation, prayed God to imbue the Governor with long life, good health and wisdom to continue to superintend over the affairs of the state.
They thanked the sponsors for their kind gesture and wished them well in their endeavours.
One of the beneficiaries, an elderly man from Ukat Ubium in Ubium South Ward One, Mr Ime Frank Udo said the gift will help him procure medication to care for his poor health.
The beneficiaries who dine and wine with the sponsors also used the opportunity for relaxation as they were entertained.
