AKHA welcomes new Commissioner of Police [Photos]

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, has welcomed a new Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State Command. He is Mr. Waheed Ayilara

Addressing the men on uniform, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Eld) Udeme Otong expressed pleasure, for having the Commissioner of Police in the legislative domain for the first time.

Hon. Otong while describing the CP as a cerebral officer, noted that the expectations of the people on him is more than what is given while assuring to give an unalloyed support to sustain peace in the state.

He stated that security is one of the core agendas of the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, emphasised the need for both arms to collaborate tightly in order to engender the slated goals of the State.

The speaker however, maintained, “being that the CP is not alien to the police work, we are hopeful that he will bring his wealth of experience to ensure that there is a striking balance in the discharge of duties, and also make sure that the several dividends of democracy is reaped.”

Introducing house members to the Commissioner of Police, Hon. Otong explained that the eighth Assembly is pragmatic in its nature and always on a will to move people oriented motions that will tame the harshness of the present economy and as well tackle insecurity.

“Akwa Ibom State is a peaceful place, bring your experiences, so, we can continuously be a peaceful zone.

We have zero tolerance for criminality, and anyone brought to book will have the full weight of the law to face,” he added.

Reiterating the bad caused by herdmen in the State, the speaker appealed for implementation of the anti-grazing law that was passed into law by the seventh Assembly, promised to lend real supports in all areas needed to curb farmers and herdmen clashes and as well enhance developments in the State.

His words, ” it behooves on the police command to rekindle their sound spirit of workmanship and to ensure that laws are implemented without compromise, while assured that the Assembly will partner with the command through feedback as representatives of the people at the grassroot.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Ayilara who expressed delight over the excess show of love and hospitality done by members of the Assembly on him, said it has encouraged him to want to set up more strides that will better sustain peace in Akwa Ibom State.

Ayilara who assumed as the CP in Akwa Ibom State, hitherto transfer served as Acting Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, with such wealthy experience had immediately spotted areas that needs the honourable members collaboration, which include, boundary issues between bordering States like Cross River, Abia and Rivers State.

He mentioned that members should also partner with the command to tackle the issues on farmers-herdsmen crisis experienced mostly in Ini Local Government Area, Obot Akara Local Government Area and Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.

Ayilara restated that cultism, kidnapping and human trafficking is now the order of the day, prayed that they should support him and the entire police command to ensure that cultism, kidnap and trafficking among other social vices are brought to book.

He promulgated the commitment of the Akwa Ibom Police Command to make Akwa Ibom State more safer, while stating preparedness to ensure that the ARISE Agenda of the governor reach expected end.

The event was attended by members of the house, and senior police officers who accompanied the commissioner of police and many others.
